Characters (pre-rendered from 3D by tools/render/)
- The hero comes from Clint Bellanger's "Isometric Hero and Heroine" Blender models (the Flare hero): steel armour, head 2 and the longsword. Licence: CC-BY 3.0 (creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/). Source: opengameart.org/content/isometric-hero-and-heroine. Changes: the pieces were composed onto one rig, the materials were recoloured, and the model was re-rendered from 8 directions at 56 px and quantised to this game's 32-colour palette.
- The brigands are built from the same Clint Bellanger models (CC-BY 3.0, same source): leather armour, head 3 and the short sword, recoloured and re-rendered the same way.
-
The house of the Tower's people (the Earl, the Lord Marshal, the Hangman, the heir, men-at-arms, halberdiers, bowmen) are built from the same Clint Bellanger models (CC-BY 3.0, same source): steel or leather armour, heads 1–3, and the greatsword, longsword, great staff, dagger, short bow, shield and buckler, recoloured and re-rendered the same way (recipes in
tools/render/jobs-tower.mjs); the capes and the Hangman's hood are added at render time. -
The gutter quarter's people (the watch, the gang master, the townsmen, the washerwomen, the children) are built from the same Clint Bellanger models (CC-BY 3.0, same source): the Tower's composed soldier and the brigand, with the weapon hidden for the unarmed and costume pieces (a surcoat, a coat and hat, a skirt and kerchief, a smock) added at render time, recoloured and re-rendered the same way (recipes in
tools/render/jobs-gutter.mjs). The six heads in the pillory (gt_head_*) are the same models (the Tower's earl, the orphanage's priest, the heir and the brigand) posed bent in the stocks and costumed per house at render time. -
The orphanage's people (Father Fulcran, the orphans, the sister) are built from the same Clint Bellanger models (CC-BY 3.0, same source): the plain clothes, head 1 and the staff (hidden), recoloured three ways, with a cassock, beard and hair, shifts, and a habit, veil and wimple added at render time (recipes in
tools/render/jobs-orphanage.mjs). -
The Gallows Downs' people (Sooth, the Horseless Knight, the Gravedigger, Sooth in the stocks) are built from the same Clint Bellanger models (CC-BY 3.0, same source): the Tower's soldier and the brigand with the weapon hidden for the carried piece (the stocks' board, a saddle, a spade), costumed at render time and re-rendered the same way (recipes in
tools/render/jobs-wastes.mjs). -
The Anchorites (Quern the miller, Graft the husbandman, the Salt Confessor, Evens and his four bodies: a wrecker, the fair's gatekeeper, a toll-clerk, a mill hand; completion package P4) are built from the same Clint Bellanger models (CC-BY 3.0, same source): the brigand and the priest rigs (
art-src/models/flare_<brigand|priest>.glb) with the weapon hidden for the Anchorite's own tool (a millpick, a pruning hook, a crystal censer, a knife and a die), costumed at render time and re-rendered the same way. Their tells (one pose per move) are posed bone by bone in code (recipes and posing intools/render/jobs-anchorites.mjs, bundled intosrc/sprites-gb-anchorites.js). -
The house of the Empress's cast (the Duchess of Marrowmere, the Magistrate of Wards, the ducal watch, the bailiffs, the Pelican Guard, the Clerk, the wards, the wet-nurses, Temperance; completion package P7) are built from the same Clint Bellanger models (CC-BY 3.0, same source): the Tower's composed soldier and the brigand and priest rigs with the carried weapon hidden where they hold something else, costumed at render time and re-rendered the same way (recipes in
tools/render/jobs-empress.mjs, bundled intosrc/sprites-gb-empress.js). The Duchess's and the Magistrate's tells are posed on the rig in code. -
The Wheel Circus's people (Ringmaster Fettle, Mother Thrupp, Tam Bullock, Lark Severn, the Pellows, Dame Constance, Mister Dolour, Wren Ashby; the tent-hand, board-man, whiteface, long man, tumbler, pinner and pit champion; package WC3) are built from the same Clint Bellanger models (CC-BY 3.0, same source): the brigand, heir and sister rigs (
art-src/models/flare_<brigand|heir|sister>.glb) with the carried weapon hidden, scaled per figure, costumed and propped at render time (boards, ruffs, stilts, a parasol, a barbell, a chain, a hook-stick) and posed bone by bone in code, re-rendered the same way (recipes, the H5 audit and the silhouette rule intools/render/jobs-circus.mjs, bundled intosrc/sprites-gb-circus.js). No other asset was used. -
The lord's own moves (the combo, the spin, the held blow, the throne's sit and stand, the run;
tools/render/hero-moves.mjs,tools/render/hero-hooks.js) are posed bone by bone on the same Clint Bellanger hero rig (CC-BY 3.0, same source) instead of using its baked clips. The seven spare-build weapon classes' figures (completion package P2) will be rendered the same way, from the same rig and the same posing code. - Risen Bones is the KayKit Skeleton Warrior and Skeleton Blade by Kay Lousberg (www.kaylousberg.com). Made in code (no outside asset)
- The gifts' effects (Halphas's armed dead, Shax's silence, Focalor's tide, Malphas's unbuilding, Zagan's transmutation), the crows' long hop and the flight views, the graybox maps (every ASCII map and its flat bake), the kneel order, the feed restyle and the held blow's effect are drawn and played by this game's own code (
src/gift-*.js,src/fasttravel.js,src/gb-*.js,src/gray*.js). No texture, model, sound or font outside the lists here was added for them. -
The Wheel Circus's animals (Old Gaol the bear, the Sovereign the lion, Patience the elephant; package WC4) are built in code from primitives (spheres, cylinders, cones, a torus) on the game's own quadruped rig (a body pitched about the hips, four two-bone legs solved by IK onto the floor, a head, a jaw, tail and trunk chains), then rendered through
tools/render/render.mjslike every figure (recipes intools/render/jobs-circus-beasts.mjs, bundled intosrc/sprites-gb-beasts.js). No outside model: no free rigged bear, lion or elephant fitted (seeart-src/SPRITE-SOURCES.md). The Flare hero glb (Clint Bellanger, CC-BY 3.0, credited above) is loaded only as the renderer's hidden camera carrier; none of its geometry is drawn. -
The Assayer's works' people (the Reeve of the Vats, Nell Cotter, Ivy Marrable; the ladle-man, bellows-man, drag-hook, valve-warden, the Scoured and the crucible-porter; package WW3) are built from the same Clint Bellanger models (CC-BY 3.0, same source): the brigand, heir and sister rigs with the carried weapon hidden, costumed, masked and propped at render time (a pole ladle, a bellows, a diver's hood and hook-pole, a valve wheel, a stack of crucibles, a tally stick, a vat paddle, a crate of masks) and posed bone by bone in code; the slag-dog is built in code from primitives on the game's own quadruped rig (the circus animals' rig). Recipes, the H5 audit and the silhouette rule in
tools/render/jobs-works.mjs, bundled intosrc/sprites-gb-works.js. No other asset was used. -
Marrowmere Falls' cast (the Stilt-Keeper, the Coracle-Netter, the Bridge-Warden, the Cormorant-Fisher, the Copper Mother, the Reeve of the Mere, Dilly, Sister Lave; package F3) are built from the same Clint Bellanger models (CC-BY 3.0, same source): the brigand, heir and sister rigs (
art-src/models/flare_<brigand|heir|sister>.glb) with the carried weapon hidden, scaled per figure, costumed and propped at render time (stilts and a gaff, a hide coracle and a net, a buckler and a mace, a yoke-pole with two cormorants, a bell skirt, plinth and pitcher, an oilskin coat and the head-gate key, a bundle, a wimple, basin and ladle) and posed bone by bone in code (recipes and the silhouette rule intools/render/jobs-falls.mjs, bundled intosrc/sprites-gb-falls.js). The Mere Pike and the cormorant are built in code from primitives in the same file; the Flare hero glb is only their hidden camera carrier. No other asset was used. -
The Greenwood's people (the verderer, the pavise crossbowman, the lymerer, the Briar-Bound, the beater; the Master of the Chase; Hollin, Gentle Cobb, Ash, Yew, Brother Wystan, the outlaw archer and the outlaw; package G3) are built from the same Clint Bellanger models (CC-BY 3.0, same source): the brigand, heir and priest rigs with the carried weapon hidden, costumed and propped at render time (a boar-spear, a pavise, a horn and leashes, bark and thorns, a flag pole, a plumed hat and crossbow, longbow and short bows, a quarterstaff, a handbell staff, a sack) and posed bone by bone in code; the leash-hound and the tusker are built in code from primitives on the game's own quadruped rig (the circus animals' rig). Recipes, the legal check and the silhouette rule in
tools/render/jobs-greenwood.mjs, bundled intosrc/sprites-gb-greenwood.js. No other asset was used. -
Mardle, the ferryman (package R3) is built from the same Clint Bellanger models (CC-BY 3.0, same source): the brigand rig (
art-src/models/flare_brigand.glb) with the carried weapon hidden, costumed and propped at render time (a sea-green coat, a broad oilcloth hat, an ash pole, a lantern lit and dark, a clay pipe, two pennies on a cord) and posed bone by bone in code (recipe, the legal check and the silhouette rule intools/render/jobs-ferry.mjs, bundled intosrc/sprites-gb-ferry.js). No other asset was used. -
Generated references for the maps. The painted dressing of the graybox maps (Codex and Gemini concepts, crushed to the palette by
tools/art/) is not in this branch yet: it waits on the art-maps branch (art/maps,DESIGN/ART-MAPS-PLAN.md). When it lands, each map's prompts and provenance are stored beside its image, as the Gemini paintings above are, and each is listed here.
Scenery
- Graveyard props (crypts, the gated arch, iron fences, graves, lanterns, trees, bones): KayKit Halloween Bits by Kay Lousberg, CC0 1.0, github.com/KayKit-Game-Assets/KayKit-Halloween-Bits-1.0. They were desaturated and tinted, then rendered at one scale.
- Interior props (candles, tables, pews, beds, shelves, banners, chests): KayKit Dungeon Remastered and KayKit Furniture Bits by Kay Lousberg, CC0 1.0 (github.com/KayKit-Game-Assets). They were desaturated and tinted, then rendered at the graveyard scale.
-
Goetic seals (Zagan, Vassago, Focalor, Shax, Malphas, Halphas, Furcas): from the Lemegeton / Mathers & Crowley Goetia (1904), public domain, via Wikimedia Commons. The exact filenames are in
art-src/ASSETS-REPORT.md. -
Painted textures and the lord's portrait, the Major Arcana, Furcas, the stills and the panel frame: generated for this game with Google Gemini (
tools/art/gen.py; the prompts are stored beside each image inart-src/gen/), then crushed to the palette.
The source models are not stored in this repository. art-src/SPRITE-SOURCES.md lists where to get them.
